The Future is Female
10:00 - 11:30
Microsoft Slovenia invites you to a webinar The Future is Female on Thursday, 23 June at 10 am.
According to Eurostat, there was almost 6.6 million women scientists and engineers in the EU in 2020, representing 41% of all science and engineering employees. Women were least represented in manufacturing (only 22%), while the gender balance was better in services (46% women). The share of female scientists and engineers in 2020 varied considerably between EU Member States, from 52% in Lithuania to 31% in Hungary, 37% in Slovenia.
If the gender gap in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and computer science (CS) is to be narrowed, more girls need to be attracted to study these disciplines in the first place.
In one of its surveys, Microsoft identified 5 main factors that influence girls' decision to study STEM:
Women role models and stories of women working in STEM professions.
The practical experience and hands-on exercises that girls get inside or outside the classroom.
Teachers and mentors who actively encourage girls.
Real-life applications of STEM skills and examples of useful practices.
Confidence in equality and gender equity.
The webinar will focus on sharing experiences and finding concrete solutions.
